More About the Book
MBA programs are not seeking functionary number crunchers. They want a new generation of global visionaries and leaders whose goals are in line with their programs' social, global, and transformational 21st century consciousness. Now more than ever, there is a need for a guide that will help readers find their inner visionary leader, and get to the heart of what separates applicants from admits – and that is: finding their story. THE MBA REALITY CHECK provides the admissions edge these MBA hopefuls need: the understanding that clearly, honestly, and boldly communicating "who you are," is what gets top admissions officers to stand up and take notice.
Think of THE MBA REALITY CHECK as a reality TV show. The book follows more than 20 MBA candidates in their own personal quests to discover what makes them unique. Forster, in his consulting alter-ego "Auntie Evan," often drags candidates kicking and screaming through the process, while Thomas provides the facts and data behind their stories, punching up the narrative with straight service. And like a great season of The Apprentice, it all unfolds in real time. No MBA candidate will put it down.
THE MBA REALITY CHECK will help readers discover:
- How to explore, define, and describe professional long- and short-term goals you can be passionate about
- What extracurricular activities say about you, their unexpected role in telling your story, and why community service matters to an MBA admissions committee
- How to master the all-important essays (including 12 chapters dedicated to the most common and important topics, each one telling an applicant's personal journey from saying what he thought the committee wanted to hear, to discovering what he really wants to say)
- Getting the most from recommenders and strategies for adding value to each recommendation
- How to sharpen interview skills with real interview questions and indispensable advice
- Secrets to getting off the waitlist
THE MBA REALITY CHECK cuts through the admissions nonsense to give readers the real deal on what business schools today are looking for.
